BIOGRAPHY
Irma M. Olmedo is professor emerita from the University of Illinois-Chicago, pursuing a second career as a fiction writer. She has published extensively on bilingualism, education, and immigration in academic research journals and book chapters, and is now using her research background and lived experience to write short stories focused on the Puerto Rican migration and diaspora. The themes of her fiction include issues of memory, childhood adventures, migration, and cultural conflict and change. She currently has a collection of short stories published as a book entitled, Tales from the Barrio and Beyond, (Floricanto Press, 2020) where characters from her childhood come alive to entertain, humor, or engage her readers in reflection about their own memories and experiences.
